Letter to my children

Here I am; your mother! What a blessing this has turned out to be! I had this idea of who I thought you would turn out to be, and you’ve all surpassed my imaginings! Under the circumstances of our life, nothing could have ever prepared me for the miraculous journey of motherhood. Goodness knows how overbearing I have been at times. You know I can be a bull-dog when it comes to having my way in certain situations. In my defence, I think you’re pretty good people ! I want to let you know why I held you to a different standard: The world is a changing place. It is different to the world I grew up in. I had a lot of fear in how to prepare you for the day you’d venture into your life without my being there to guide you. Are you someone who is striving for a certain ideal in your life? Do you wish to possess a certain job, skillset, physique or reach a goal? Is your skin in the game? **** I had an individual contact me several times regarding his interest in pursuing a career as a Power Line Technician. He was persistent and highlighted the many ways his past experience was transferrable to the PLT role. I agreed that they were transferable, and I asked him one question: "What do you know about electricity?" **** At some point, there has to be a change. If you say you want to move in a certain direction, you have to quit your job and take the leap into the field of work you'd like to do -- or actively work or study at it on a part-time basis to get there. Or, you have to get up off your ass and go to the gym, buy the right food to nourish your body, drink alcohol less or quit altogether --- just saying "I'm gunna" holds about as much weight as a wooden ...
